James Iha, D'Arcy Out On Smashing Pumpkins Reunion

Smashing Pumpkins

James Iha has denied any involvement with the Smashing Pumpkins reunion, telling Rolling Stone, “No, I’m not part of the current Smashing Pumpkins album or tour, I haven’t spoken to Billy in years."

I am not at all surprised that Iha won't be participating, but who will be taking his place? And can the band be as good without their axe man? What do you think? Let me know who you think should play guitar in Iha's place, and whether anyone can do it as well.

Oh, and no D'Arcy on bass, or at least that's what's been alluded to. Auf der Maur has said she'd be more than happy to help out.

I can't suggest a replacement for Iha and don't really care since I can only think of two Smashing Pumpkins songs I really like, but I remember one time back in the heydey of "Melon Collie..." the band was on the Howard Stern show and Corgan was going on and on about how it was the band's mission to make enduring music that would be looked back upon in hundreds of years as masterpieces the way symphonies are today. All I could think of while listening to him was how Billy Corgan must be the biggest c**k in the world to work with. Hearing that Iha hasn't spoken to him in years pretty much confirms my suspicions. Well, that and the dumb full-page ad Corgan took out in a Chicago paper to announce the reunion of the Pumpkins just as his first solo album dropped DOA (http://www.mtv.com/shared/promoimages/bands/c/corgan_billy/billy_corgan_pumpkins_reunite/).
